Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of care home is Hampton House?
Hampton House specialises in the care for low-dependency elderly residents. We aim to provide high quality care and services in a homely caring environment for people who are no longer able or wish to remain in their own home.
How do I know if Hampton House is the right care home for my relative?
We recommend that you come and have a look around. Choosing a care home for a relative is a little bit like choosing a house to buy – you will probably be able to tell whether our environment is suitable for your relative, by visiting us, and talking to our staff and other residents. We suggest you have a look at a few homes, that way you will have a comparison, since all homes have something different to offer.
If I like Hampton House, how do I know if Hampton House can meet my relative’s care needs?
We will establish whether Hampton House can meet your relative’s care needs through an initial “Assessment of Needs” meeting. This meeting can take place at home, at hospital or here at Hampton House. The choice is yours!
What’s include in the care fees that Hampton House charges?
Our fees include all costs associated with accommodation, care, laundry and our organised activities and entertainments.
What’s not included in the care fees?
Daily newspapers and magazines, hairdressing and chiropody.
Do you take Social Services funded residents?
Yes we do, but it is usual for a third party “top-up” to be contributed to the weekly fees.
Can my relative come and try Hampton House out before making a decision a live there permanently?
Yes, of course. Most prospective residents stay for at least one month, before they make the commitment to make Hampton House their permanent home. This “trial” stay will give your relative an opportunity to try us out, and give you and your family peace of mind and time, before making this life changing decision.
Do you offer respite stays?
Yes we do. We are happy to accommodate respite stays. The minimum stay is two weeks.
Will my relative have their own bedroom?
Yes. All our bedrooms are for single occupancy. We are happy to accommodate a couple. Most of our bedrooms have their own en-suite toilet and they all have their own basin. All the bedrooms are individual in style and decoration.
Can my relative bring items of furniture from home?
Yes, if they would like to. We are happy for your relative to personalise their room with their own pictures and ornaments, and larger items of furniture and belongings if they would like to. All our bedrooms are individually decorated and fully furnished to a high standard. We provide a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside table, bedside lighting, a breakfast table, armchair and colour television. Our beds are divan beds and we provide bedding and towels.
Can my relative keep their own GP?
Yes, if you are moving into Hampton House from the Cheltenham area. If you are moving to Hampton House from outside Cheltenham, we will make arrangements to register you with the local doctor, at Leckhampton Surgery.
What does my relative need to bring with them?
Please bring personal clothing including night clothes, dressing gown and slippers. They will need to bring their personal toiletries, including their own flannels, and all their medication. Please remember to bring their glasses, hearing aid, walking stick or zimmer frame.
Can my relative have a newspaper delivered?
Yes. We will contact the local newsagent on their behalf and arrange delivery of a newspaper and magazines. A separate bill will be sent to them or a relative at the end of each month.
Can my relative eat their meals in their bedroom?
Yes, if they would like to. Breakfast is served to all our residents in their bedrooms, we find this is a leisurely way to start the day. Your relative will be encouraged to eat lunch and supper in the dining room with the other residents. This is a socially enjoyable and stimulating part of the day for most of our residents.
Can my relative make and receive telephone calls?
Yes. All our bedrooms are fitted with a telephone socket and most residents have their own telephone number and account. That way they can receive and make calls directly. If they have a Cheltenham telephone number in their own home, it may be possible for you to transfer their existing telephone number. If they are staying with us for a respite stay or holiday, they can use our portable telephone which can be brought to their bedroom in order for them to keep in touch with friends and family in privacy.
When can friends and relatives visit?
Visitors are welcome at any time. We do not have any visiting hours.
What will happen if my relative needs a visit from a chiropodist, dentist, optician or physiotherapist?
Domiciliary visits are arranged to Hampton House, for all these services on a regular basis. If your relative prefers, these visits can be requested on an individual basis. Alternatively your relative may prefer to continue using a local provider with whom they have built up a rapport.
What happens about hairdressing appointments?
A number of hairdressers visit Hampton House, and this service is paid for by the residents’ direct to the hairdresser. We can make an appointment for you relative, or they may prefer to continue with a hairdresser that visited them at home or continue to use a local salon.
What happens if my relative wants to continue to look after and administer their own prescribed medication?
Provided your relative is able to manage their own medication, we will provide them with a lockable drawer in their room for them to store their medicines. We will assist them with reordering their medication supply.
What happens if my relative doesn’t want the responsibility of looking after, and reordering their prescribed medication?
We can help them with the worry of managing their prescribed medication and this is a very common reason for people moving into our care home. Hampton House uses a medication system that has been specially designed for care homes, from Rowland’s Pharmacy, called the Monitored Dosage System.
What happens about laundry facilities?
All the laundry is done on site by the care staff. Your relative’s clothing will be named with sewn in name tapes. They will be given a named laundry bag for their use, and they may request the frequency of their laundry to suit them. Most garments are laundered and returned on the same day. The laundry costs are included in our weekly care fees. Dry cleaning is arranged outside the home. This service is paid for by the resident separately and arrangements to take and collect dry cleaning will be made on their behalf.
